Galaxy S8 Android 8.0 Oreo Sweetness Now Available With Samsung Experience 9.0 Beta
Two of the best Android smartphones on the market will be betting an update to Android 8.0 Oreo in the not-too-distant future. We are talking about Samsung's Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, both of which are still saddled with Nougat, though not for long. For those who want to get an early look at Oreo, Samsung today announced it is part of the Samsung Experience 9.0 beta that is rolling out.
The new beta is being made available to select customers participating in Samsung's Galaxy beta program. Initially, Samsung is rolling out the newest beta version what used to be called TouchWiz, and is now called Samsung Experience, to beta program members based in South Korea, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Samsung also notes there will be additional rounds of registration before the update becomes final.
"Previously known as TouchWiz, Samsung Experience is based on the Android OS and has expanded beyond the user interface to provide Galaxy users with a consistent and seamless experience across all Samsung mobile software, apps and services. This change is in recognition of the increasing suite of unique services Samsung has developed for the Galaxy devices," Samsung said.
"Following Samsung Experience version 8.5, which was released with the Galaxy Note 8, Samsung Experience 9.0 is based on the latest version of the operating system built on the Android Oreo UI and UX, and will be available on the next flagship Galaxy device," Samsung added.
Users who are interested in applying for the program and taking an early look at Android 8.0 Oreo on their Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus device must have an active account with Samsung and meet certain requirements The beta program is provided through the Samsung+ app in the US, and the Samsung Members app in other parts of the world, both of which are free in Google Play.
While Google works to get Android 8.0 Oreo released to Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ owners, Google is working on an Android 8.1 update.
