GameStop Expands Its Wings, Will Offer Cricket Wireless Service In Over 2,800 U.S. Stores

GameStop is fast becoming more than just your local one-stop shop for new and used games. Accessories abound, as do mobile devices like Android tablets and iPads. In addition to all that, you'll soon be able to walk into a GameStop store and emerge with a no-annual contract service through Cricket Wireless.

Following a successful run in trial markets, GameStop and Cricket Wireless are ready to attack all of GameStop's more than 2,800 retail locations in the U.S. It will be a phased roll out beginning next month and completed by the end of October.

"GameStop is committed to providing our customers the greatest value and service to meet all their video game, technology and now wireless needs," said Tony Bartel, president of GameStop. "By offering Cricket Wireless service in our stores, we provide yet another great offering for our customers to get their favorite technology simply and affordably."

It's a unique pairing, though one that both sides believe will benefit one another. For Cricket Wireless, the partnership accelerates the company's retail footprint in the U.S. and solidifies it as a national player. And for GameStop, it's yet another way to draw people into its retail locations.

To create some buzz about this partnership, Cricket Wireless built an interactive video game utilizing 3D and virtual reality technology. The game will debut tomorrow at CTIA Super Mobility Week within the Cricket Wireless booth.
