Garmin, Asus Tag Team Smartphone Market with another Android Phone
Garmin-Asus, a co-branded alliance between two heavyweights in each one's respective field, today announced the Garmin-Asus A10, the second Android-powered smartphone the two companies have collaborated on. This latest one sports a bright, 3.2-inch HVGA touchscreen display the duo claims is optimized for "pedestrian navigation."
Along those same lines, it comes with an electronic compass, long-lasting 1500mAh battery, and GPS capabilities, making the A10 ideally suited for anyone who simply can't sit still. And you won't have to pay for third-party maps, either - Garmin-Asus says the A10 comes pre-loaded with detail maps, as well as comes with a powered audio mount that magnifies the device's voice commands.
Other features include a WebKit browser with multi-touch, 5MP camera with auto-focus and geotagging capabilties, built-in accelerometer, Microsoft Exchange support, and of course access to the Google Market and its repository of over 30,000 apps.
Look for this one to start shipping in mid-2010 in Europe and Asia-Pacific. No word on when, or even if, the A10 will eventually land in the States.
