Garminfone Now Available At T-Mobile For $199 On Contract
Is the best current GPS on the market, just a phone? Some would say that
Google Maps Navigation on Android has the navigation thing down, but
there's still nothing quite like a dedicated NAV. Garmin's first attempt
at combining a GPS and a phone didn't exactly go over well; the
original nuvifone took too long to go from introduction to shipping, and
then the final product was priced too high for many to consider given
the popularity of the iPhone, RIM's BlackBerry line and the growing Android selection.
The second Garmin phone, which is simply called Garminfone, is a bit different. The phone is landing with a lower price tag than before, and rather than being completely proprietary, this handset is actually based around an OS that people seem to crave: Android. Granted, it's only Android 1.6, but upgrades could certainly come to bring it up to par with others like the Droid Incredible and Nexus One.
Garmin calls this an all-in-one smartphone, and in many ways, it is. It's the only Android phone with a nuvi underneath, and it's available now exclusively at T-Mobile for $199 on a 2-year contract. Still unsure if it's the phone for you? Here's a little YouTube assistance.
