Like the previous model, the new Gear Fit2 Pro will wield Samsung's home grown Tizen platform rather than Android Wear. it will bring about a bevy of feature changes, one of them being "5 ATM" water resistance. This means the fitness band can be fully submerged in water, allowing swimmers to keep track of their swimming workouts. The previous generation Gear Fit2 is IP-68 certified for brief bouts with water, but is not certified for full submersion.
Samsung is also adding music playback to the Gear Fit2 Pro. The wearable will support offline listening of Spotify tracks, which could come in handy for workouts that take users off the beaten path (and away from Wi-Fi signals). And like the Gear Fit2, the Pro model will have GPS functionality.
To help ensure the Gear Fit2 Pro does not fall off during intense workouts where arms are flailing about, Sasmung is moving away from a snap clasp design and introducing a clasp that is similar to what is found on many watches. This should be a welcome change for fitness gurus who go hard at their workouts.
The Gear Fit2 Pro will support both Android and iOS. What is not known at this time is whether Samsung plans to replace the Gear Fit2 with the Pro model, or sell both models alongside each other.
