Gears Of War 4 Gets Rise Of The Horde Update And Free Trial Next Week, Here’s What’s New

Gears of War has been wildly popular for both the Xbox One and PC. The latest installment in the franchise, Gear of War 4, is poised to receive a massive update that adds a myriad of content and features to the game.

In a blog post on Xbox Wire, Liam Ashley, Community Manager for The Coalition, says, “Prepare for the biggest ever update in the history of Gears of War 4 – and all for free – with the Rise of the Horde arriving on June 6th! And, if you haven’t dived into the next chapter in the epic saga of Gears of War 4, you can try it for free later this month with our Game Trial!”

The Horde update for Gears Of War 4 will incorporate 15 brand new Horde Skills (three per class), new Level 6 skills, some loot drops, and additional difficulty levels. The game is also being tuned a bit, but details weren’t disclosed in the post.

Of the 15 new skills, the Scout gains the ability to Cloak and Heavies can take the Berserker and Last Stand skills to do (and take) more damage with Heavy Weapons, as they get low on health. The post also goes on to say, “Snipers can take Magic Bullet to get increasing headshot damage bonus rewards, Soldiers can use Siphon to earn more Power for Grenade plant kills, and Engineers can resupply their comrades with ammo when their Fortifications kill enemies with the new Salvage skill.” Skills can also be boosted up to Level 6 in the update, and defeating boss waves 30, 40, and 50 will drop new Horde skills as well.

New “Avalanche” and “Rust Lung” maps are also part of the update, along with new achievements, and new difficulty levels, dubbed Inconceivable and Iron Man. The new Inconceivable difficulty level affects the game differently whether playing Gears 4 in Horde or Campaign modes. Explaining Iron Man is simple though – if you die in Campaign mode, the level will restart; die in Horde mode and no COG tags will be dropped when you die and one failed wave spells the end of your run.

There’s also a brand new Versus special event coming called, Golden Gun. Golden Gun arms the player with one bullet and a hip-fire only Boltok. If you land your bullet, you’ll instantly return it to the gun, otherwise the reload time will be exceptionally long.

The Gears 4 update is due to hit June 6. Then on June 9th – 15th, a free trial of Gears of War 4 will be available, that gives players access to the game for 10 hours of play-time, including the entire first act of the campaign mode and full access to the Horde and Versus experiences. If you haven’t checked out Gears of War 4, next week will be a great opportunity, whether you want to play on the Xbox One or a Windows 10 PC.
