Gigabyte BRIX Gaming UHD Combines Core i7-6700HQ With GeForce GTX 950 Graphics
Looking somewhat like a miniature trash can, the BRIX Gaming UHD features an aluminum chassis that measures 220mm x 110mm x 110mm. Mounted atop the chassis is a fan that expels heat from the high-end processor and mainstream discrete GPU. This particular model is equipped with a quad-core Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950 graphics card (each has its own separate chamber and heatsink within the chassis).
Inside the chassis, there’s barely enough room for two M.2 SSDs and two SO-DIMM slots — don’t even think about sticking a 2.5-inch hard drive in there. When it comes to wireless connectivity, the BRIX Gaming UHD comes standard with Bluetooth 4.2 and Intel 802.11ac Wi-Fi. As for external ports, the machine doesn’t disappoint: you’ll get two USB 3.1 (Type-C) ports, three USB 3.0 ports, three Mini-DisplayPort, a single HDMI 2.0 port and Intel GbE. We’re actually pleasantly surprised at the amount of connectivity afforded to this relatively small desktop.
What we’d really like to see, however, is this tiny chassis outfitted with at least an NVIDIA Mobile GeForce GTX 1060 GPU instead the GTX 950. The GTX 950 has a TDP of 90 watts, while the GTX 1060 comes in well under that at 75 watts. Heck, Gigabyte might even be able to cram in a GTX 1070, which features a TDP of 100 watts. Either Pascal-based GPU would wipe the floor with the GTX 950.
Gigabyte didn’t provide us any information about pricing and availability at this time, but we’ll be back to update you once we’re privy to those details.
