Gigabyte Is Getting Its GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Ampere Ducks In A Row
Give it some time and NVIDIA will undoubtedly flesh out its GeForce RTX 30 series with more SKUs, though what exactly it has up its sleeve may depend on how AMD's upcoming Radeon RX 6000 series launch goes. Regardless, though, it seems increasingly like that there will be a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. The latest evidence of this unreleased SKU being on the roadmap comes from several Gigabyte listings with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).
Before we get to those listings, let's quickly recap there things stand. After launching Ampere to the machine learning sector with its A100, NVIDIA turned its attention to home consumers with three initial GeForce models, including the GeForce RTX 3090 ($1,499), GeForce RTX 3080 ($699), and GeForce RTX 3070 ($499).
Out of those, the GeForce RTX 3070 is the only one that has not yet launched to retail—it is slated to arrive on October 15, and if the other retail launches are any indication, it will sell out almost immediately, despite efforts to beat back the bots and scalpers. It is what it is, folks.
Looking beyond the GeForce RTX 3070, there have been leaks and rumors of several more SKUs, including a version of the GeForce RTX 3080 with 20GB of memory, a GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, and a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. Normally there would not be any Ti models so close to the initial launch of a new GPU, but what's normal these days?
Over at EEC's website, we can see that Gigabyte has registered what appear to be four different GeForce RTX 3060 Ti models. Have a look...
You can click/tap the image above for easier viewing. Direct your attention to the "Name of product" and "Full name of goods" fields and you'll see the four SKUs. They presumably include the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Aorus Master (GV-N306TAORUS M-8GD), GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Gaming OC (GV-N306TGAMING OC-8GD), GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Eagle OC (GV-N306TEAGLE OC-8GD), and GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Eagle (GV-N306TEAGLE-8GD).
Each SKU indicate 8GB of memory, which will likely be of the GDDR6 variety, the same type found on the GeForce RTX 3070 (rather than GDDR6X as found on the GeForce RTX 3090 and GeForce RTX 3080). Other details are not listed.
That said, past rumors suggest the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti consist of the following...
- 4,864 CUDA cores
- 152 Tensor cores
- 38 RT cores
- 8GB GDDR6 memory
- 14Gbps memory
- 256-bit memory bus
- 448GB/s memory bandwidth
- ~180 TDP
Best guess is that such a configuration would be roughly in line with a GeForce RTX 2080 Super, or even the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti in some instances (the Ti's additional RAM and bandwidth would make it better suited for some games, particularly at 4K).
Twitter user @momomo_us also spotted an early retail listing for one of Gigabyte's upcoming GeForce RTX 3060 Ti cards. Don't be alarmed by the price, though, as that is obviously just a placeholder (assuming the listing is legitimate in the first place).
It is anyone's guess when NVIDIA might launch the new part. For reference, AMD is set to unveil its Radeon RX 6000 series on October 28.
