Google Chrome 71 Forces UI Redesign On Users Prompting Epic Backlash

If you have been using Google's Chrome browser lately, you have probably noticed that the company has been pushing out an updated user interface that features a mobile-centric design focus. This interface was first pushed out in September, but it was an optional feature up until Chrome 71, which was released this month and forces you to use the new UI. It appears, however, that many users are unhappy with the new interface.

Many of the arguments against Chrome have been voiced on Reddit, where users have complained that the new interface is too lightly colored, and many have also commented that it's too difficult now to tell which tab you are currently looking at. Other comments have said common Chrome features are no longer working with the new update, such as the built-in translation feature. To overcome these issues some users have resorted to downgrading Chrome to an earlier version, but one of Google's engineers is advising people to switch to a competing web browser instead of downgrading Chrome.

"Please don't do this. As a Chrome dev, we would really rather you use another browser than try to lock yourself on an old version of Chrome." said Google engineer Peter Casting. "There are serious consequences to this, and much like choosing not to be vaccinated, the choice affects other people besides just you."

Of course Google would like everyone to continue using its Chrome browser. "The easiest thing to do would be to just stay on Chrome." Casting added. "With nearly all users we've talked to who've done this, they don't mind the new UI after using it for a couple weeks. It's just the initial adaption that's a shock."

It appears that Google doesn't have any plans to revert to its older user interface, so if you are unhappy with the changes you will need to either switch to a competitor or hope for more changes in the next version.
