Google Chrome Extension Blocks Potential Star Wars: The Force Awakens Spoilers

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is poised to become the biggest movie of 2015; and perhaps even the biggest movie of all time. With years of hype surrounding its release along with a big name director helming the project, J.J. Abrahams, there’s no question that fans are eager to get get a taste of what Disney has to offer with the newest Star Wars trilogy.

However, with all the hype comes the possibility for spoilers. And with our lives these days revolving around the Internet, it’s almost impossibly to avoid spoilers for movies that we have yet to see. If details of a film aren’t spoiled by our Twitter accounts or Facebook News Feeds, perhaps just visiting one of our favorite websites could be enough to ruin the surprises that await those looking to watch the film on the big screen.

The extension, clumsily named Force Block: the Star Wars spoiler blocker, will allow you to surf the Internet in peace, shielding yourself from the Dark Side of Star Wars spoilers. The extension uses what the developers call “smart pattern detection” to determine if a page has spoilers and blocks the page entirely if it thinks that a site will ruin your day. There’s even a whitelist available should an innocent website get caught up its its tractor beam.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will open in movie theaters around the United States Thursday night, and will really get rolling once the weekend rolls around. So if you haven’t already gotten your tickets for opening night or don’t plan on seeing the film anytime soon, you might want to install this Chrome extension now to save yourself from an aneurism if you just so happen to stumble across spoilers during your daily travels.
