Google Hilariously Trolls Microsoft Windows And Apple macOS With New Chromebook Ad
Do you even Chromebook, bro? The answer will depend on who you ask that question to, but for the most part, Chromebooks are popular in the education segment, and not so much in the mainstream market at large. Google is hoping to change that, and in an new ad campaign, the company hilariously highlights why it feels Chrome OS is superior to Windows 10 and macOS.
"Built-in virus protection, a battery that lasts all day, and automatic updates: welcome to the new way of doing things. Stream, play, and work without anything slowing you down," Google states in the ad's description on YouTube.
Those are solid bullet points, but nothing that would elicit a giggle. What does, however, is the ad highlighting the various errors users might frustratingly encounter in a Windows PC or Mac. The video is a minute long, and if you have PC error-related PTSD, this might set you over the top. One scene in particular hits a little too close to home—around the halfway mark, Google shows a user trying to exit a error dialog box, only to be met with a blue screen of death (BSoD).
We have all been there, unfortunately. In my own experience, Windows 10 has been more reliable than past versions of Windows, and while the forced updates can be annoying at times, overall it works well. But that is not the point of these ad campaigns. In the ad, Google exaggerates issues to humorous effect, then ends by extolling the benefits of owning a Chromebook.
It does not matter how you feel about Chromebooks and Chrome OS in general, or even Google—the ad is funny. One thing Google did not touch on, however, is the price. The top selling laptop on Amazon right now is an Acer Chromebook 11 with a Celeron N3060 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage. That's a ho-hum setup, but at $159, it seems buyers are being enticed by the price.
Several other Chromebooks are among the top 10 best sellers as well, including the Samsung Chromebook 3 (No. 4), ASUS Chromebook C202SA-YS02 (No. 8), Google Pixelbook (No. 9),a nd Acer Chromebook R11 Convertible (No. 10). Save for the Pixelbook, all of the rest are relatively affordable options.
In any event, if you're keeping score, it's Google 1, Microsoft and Apple 0. Game on.
