Google Launches $35/Month YouTube TV Streaming Service For Discerning Cord Cutters
Do you love television content but are ready to cut the cord from big cable providers tapping your wallet dry? YouTube might be your answer. Google has just launched YouTube TV, their own streaming service, in select markets.
According to Google, YouTube TV is the answer to the following questions: “How long do we have to wait until we can watch live TV on the go, on all our devices? When will we have DVRs big enough to handle all the things we want to record? And when will we be able to get the channels we care about, at a price we can afford, without all the commitments, equipment fees, and hassle?”
YouTube TV allows members to stream live shows on their phone, tablet, computer, Google Chromecast, or Chromecast built-in TV for just $35 USD a month. The service includes a cloud DVR with no storage limits so that users can stream their recordings anywhere in the United States at any time. Users can keep their recordings for playback for up to nine months. A YouTube TV membership also includes six accounts. These accounts will let you watch as many MLB games as your heart desires, while your partner simultaneously tunes in to Scandal (for example). In addition, YouTube TV members also get access to YouTube Red Originals.
YouTube TV will start off with fifty channels, including ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, ESPN, Fox Sports Networks, Comcast SportsNet, as well as local broadcast stations. Users will be able to add on channels such as Showtime or Fox Soccer Plus for an additional, yet to be disclosed charge. YouTube TV plans to add a number of channels in the future. Right now AMC, BBC America, IFC, Sundance TV, WE tv, and BBC World News should arrive “soon” at no additional cost.
Unfortunately, YouTube TV is only currently available in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, and Philadelphia.
