Google Partners With uBreakiFix To Offer Free Pixel, Pixel XL Repairs For Hurricane Harvey Victims

Hurricane Harvey decimated the Houston, Texas area with many people losing everything they own. It is still a true disaster area and many people are still wading through flooded areas. Google wants to do its part to help those hurricane victims using its Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones to communicate regularly with loved ones and emergency assistance if needed. Google has announced that it will be offering free repairs of Pixel and Pixel XL devices that were damaged by flood waters for owners in the Houston area.

Google is working with uBreakiFix to repair the devices; this is the same company that Google has been working with to offer same day repairs across the U.S. and Canada. Both the Pixel and Pixel XL were in the market before the trend to add water resistance to all devices, and you can bet that more than a few owners have ruined smartphones in Houston.

The repairs will be free and will reportedly fix any issue that might have resulted from water damage. The free repairs will be offered at uBreakiFix stores in:

  • The Heights
  • Rice Village
  • Pearland
  • Pasadena
  • West Chase
  • Sugar Land
  • Webster

The free repairs will be offered until September 30. uBreakiFix wrote in its blog announcing the repair service, "In an effort to provide some small relief to our customers and friends in the Houston area who have been affected by Hurricane Harvey, we’ve teamed up with Google to offer free repairs on all Pixels." The company continues writing, "Our hearts go out to the city of Houston and the surrounding communities."

Google recently cut the price of the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones ahead of the rollout of the second generation devices. The discount was up to $200 off the current price and you received a free Daydream View VR headset as well. Pixel XL buyers could get $200 off, making the purchase price $569 for the 32GB version and $669 for the 128GB unit. A normal Pixel sells for $524 after a $125 discount.
