Google Orders Last Batch Of Nexus One Phones; Sales To End Soon

Did you buy a Nexus One? If not, you better hurry up. Still today, it's the only Android phone with an official v2.2 update available for it (hacks have placed it on other phones, though), but Google won't be selling it for much longer. When the Nexus One was officially launched back at the start of 2010, it was Google's first attempt at selling a phone directly. It was built by HTC, but Google handled everything else. Sales, tech support, etc. The company announced a few months ago that it would be closing things down on the Nexus One shortly, as it wasn't exactly prepared for all of the stress involved in being a phone sales company.

But still, the Nexus One is easily one of the best Android phones on the market, and it will always be first amongst the Android phones on the market to receive new Android updates due to Google's ownership. Our recent review of Android 2.2 demonstrates just how fond we are of the phone and the operating system, but if you want one, you'll need to act fast. Google has just ordered their last batch of phones from HTC, so once these sell out, they'll be out for good. Google sells two versions of the phone: one for AT&T and one for T-Mobile. Both are unlocked phones, so you simply pop your SIM card in and carry on.

The phone is available for $529 off-contract, or for $179 with a 2-year T-Mobile contract. And if you wait and have to buy one on the secondhand market, be prepared to pay even more. Will the world ever see a Nexus Two? We can hope, but Google has yet to say one way or the other.
