Google Pixel 2 OTA Update Incoming to Fix Distracting Buzzing Sounds From Earpiece
Some frustrated Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL owners have made some noise about, well, a noise issue with Google's fancy new handsets. Google already fixed part of the problem, eliminating an annoying click sound that was related to NFC. Now it is getting ready to roll out another over-the-update to address a buzzing sound that some users have been hearing when talking on the phone.
Affected users have described the noise as in different ways. Some hear a faint, high-pitched buzz that is noticeable when placing the Pixel 2 up to their ears, while others describe it as a constant clicking noise, separate from the NFC issue that has already been resolved. One of the complaints on Google's Pixel User Community forum said his phone as making "high pitched whirling noises."
They all seem to be complaining about the same phenomenon, and Google seems to have figured out what is causing the various noises.
"Hey all, we're rolling out a software update in the coming weeks which eliminates a faint buzzing sound on some Pixel 2 devices when the phone is placed to your ear during a phone call. Thanks," a Google Community Manager said.
Google did not say what exactly is causing the noise this time around, but whatever it is—some kind of electrical interference, if we had to guess—a software update can apparently fix it, as opposed to having replace the actual hardware. That's good news for Google, as the latter would be a much more expensive proposition.
While there have been some issues with Google's newest flagship phones, such as unresponsive touch screens, overall the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 are decent phones that are solidly built, offer strong performance, and take good pictures.
