These Google Pixel 4 XL Renders Confirm Demise Of Dreaded Display Notch
A fresh set of Pixel 4 XL renders have hit the web, and if they are to be believed, Google will in fact ditch the display notch in favor of a traditional bezel this time around. That is a bit of a surprise, given that smartphone makers have largely favored moving on from the bezel, whether utilizing a notch, a punch-hole cutout, or even an under-display camera.
None of those appear to be the case for the upcoming Pixel 4 XL, and presumably the Pixel 4 as well. Google had adopted a notched design (made popular by Apple with its iPhone X series) with its Pixel 3 XL and Pixel 3 phones, but the new set of renders once again point to a bezel at the top of the Pixel 4 XL to house the front cameras and speaker.
Steve Hemmerstoffer, who you may recognize as @OnLeaks on Twitter, partnered with Pricebaba to 'leak' the renders. They are consistent with the most recent renders we have seen, though it is worth noting that a notched design was still being shown as recently as May.
We would put our money on a bezel finding its way to the final design, though. Hemmerstoffer is plugged into the pre-release scene, and it is very possible that this is a controlled leak to generate buzz and drum up excitement.

The backside shown in the renders is at least accurate. We know this because Google recently teased an official stock image of the Pixel 4, and it clearly made visible a large square protrusion on the rear of the phone. This houses three cameras in a triangle arrangement, plus a microphone and LED flash. It's believed that the cameras will consist of a main lens, a telephoto lens, and possibly a 3D sensor.
If these newest renders are accurate, the Pixel 4 XL will also sport a power button and volume rocker on the right-hand side, and a USB-C port on the bottom. Unfortunately, none of the renders depict a 3.5mm audio jack, so we assume it will not be on the final design. Bummer.
As for the rest of the hardware, it is said to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and up to 6GB of RAM. For reference, the Pixel 3 family shipped with 4GB of RAM. It also shipped with 64GB or 128GB of onboard storage, and we assume the Pixel 4 family will at least match those options, if not exceed them.
The other given is that Android Q will ship with the Pixel 4 family, with a launch likely to take place in October.
