Google Pixel Android Nougat Flagship Smartphone Leaked In New Picture

Exactly one week from today Google will unveil a handful of electronic devices. Among them will be a pair of new flagship smartphones, the Pixel and Pixel XL, otherwise known by their internal codenames Sailfish and Marlin. Rumors have been circulating about both new phones for months, and now we have our first look at what appears to be an official press render of the smaller handset (Pixel).

The folks at VentureBeat obtained the photo along with a confirmation that Google will in fact unveil the Pixel and Pixel XL at its hardware event on October 4, though there's no mention of the source of the leak (someone at Google, no doubt). That's not really a surprise, given the amount of information that's slipped out of Mountain View regarding the new phones.


One of the many rumors floating around about the Pixel and Pixel XL is that they're being produced by HTC. Whether or not HTC's branding will be evident on either handset remains to be seen. It's also interesting that Google is choosing to move on from its Nexus branding, choosing instead to roll with Pixel, a brand name that already has some recognition thanks to the Chromebook Pixel.

According to previous reports, the smaller Pixel handset will sport a 5-inch Full HD 1080p display powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor clocked at 2GHz and 4GB of RAM. It will also boast 32GB of internal storage, 8-megapixel and 12-megapixel front and rear cameras (respectively), fingerprint sensor, USB-C port, and a 2,770 mAh battery.

The Pixel XL will reportedly feature a similar spec sheet, but with a larger 5.5-inch QHD display and 3,450 mAh battery. Both handsets will arrive with Android 7.0 Nougat, the newest version of Google's mobile operating system.
