Google Play Store 8.0 Update Rolls Out With Summer Sale Discounts On Movies, Apps And Games
Silly human, did you really think you would spend this summer lounging at the beach and frolicking at the park? Pshaw! Maybe that is what regular people do, but geeks like us, we take advantage of numerous sales and then bask in the warm glow of our PC monitors! It is not our fault—blame Steam for its Summer Sale, Amazon for its Prime Day extravaganza, and now Google for its markdowns on Google Play.
That's right, as if we did not already have plenty of online shops to spend our hard earned cash as we get this summer party started, here comes Google with discounts across the board. Starting today, you will find deals for movies, apps, games, music, TV shows, and books. The sale runs through July 5 for apps, games, books, and music, and until July 13 for movies and TV shows in select markets.
As Google points out, we suppose you could take advantage its sale to make your summer more entertaining outside of your home. For example, you can stock up on ebooks with discounts ranging from 50-80 percent off, then read away your day in a lounge chair by the pool. And if you're planning a beach party, now is the time to consider a Google Play Music subscription—Google is offer a four-month free trial, which will take you into fall.
If instead you are planning to stay inside, you will find plenty of movies to rent for a buck (technically $0.99). Some of the bigger ones include CHiPs (easily worth a dollar), Get Out, The LEGO Batman Movie, John Wick: Chapter 2, Logan, Rogue One: A Stars Wars Story, and Saban's Power Rangers, to name just a few. And of course there are the games. There are some big discounts to be had. For example, Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies is on sale for $1.99, down from $6.99, while Need for Speed Most Wanted is priced at $0.99, down from $4.99.
The sale coincides with the roll out of Google Play 8.0. One of the things it changes is that changelogs detailing app updates can now appear on the "My apps & games* screen of a company's digital marketplace for Android devices. You will still see which apps needed updated when navigating to this interface, only now all of the app cars will have an arrow icon that you can tap to expand if you want to see what is new.
