Google Promises Fix For Pixel 2 And Pixel 2 XL LTE Random Reboot Bug
Owners of Google's flagship Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL devices can't seem to catch a break. It seems there has been one annoying issue after another, such as the distracting, high-pitched buzzing sounds that some users observed emanating from the earpiece, and inaccurate battery life estimates, to name a couple recent issues. Luckily Google's been good at rolling out fixes, one of which it's working on for a random reboot issue.
Some Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL owners have complained about their phones restarting at random. One user said it even happens in Safe Mode, seemingly indicating it is not an issue with an app, but the phone itself. There are lots of Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL owners experiencing the problem, and through the course of long support threads, it was discovered that issue manifests when exiting a Wi-Fi zone and connecting via LTE.
"I KNOW WHY THIS IS HAPPENING!!! It's from being in a low signal area and LTE—for example when I'm at home on Wi-Fi it rarely happens. Once I leave my Wi-Fi area (low signal area, LTE comes and goes) reboots happen constantly . . . So I went into Settings -> Network and Internet -> Mobile Network and change Preferred network type to only use 3G = NO MORE REBOOTS!," a Pixel 2 owner named Nader Babbili wrote.
Google has acknowledged the problem and said it is working on a fix, though the company did not say what exactly is causing the problem, and whether it is related to LTE connectivity.
"Hey all, thanks for all the info you have provided and for those that sent over bug reports. We want to let you know that we've identified a fix which will be rolling out in the coming weeks," Orrin, a community manager in Google Product Forums' Pixel User Community, posted yesterday.
While Google doesn't seem interested in disclosing what exactly is causing the random reboots, we suspect users will be happy just to have a working, reliable handset.
