Google Rumored To Tease Pixel 4 5G Flagship At October 15 Hardware Event
The newest report coming from Nikkei suggests that alongside the standard LTE versions of the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, Google will also at least preview a 5G version of the smartphone. According to the publication, it’s not likely that the device will actually be available at launch like its LTE counterparts, and would arrive at a later date (the Pixel 4 5G is reportedly currently testing in China).
If the device is not shown next week, Nikkei indicates that the next opportunity to reveal the device will be in Spring 2020 when the follow-up to the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL are announced. To us, that sounds like a more plausible scenario. It wouldn’t make much sense for Google to show off a flagship 5G smartphone, then not make it available for another six months. If anything, it could actually hurt initial sales of the Pixel 4 family.
Whichever route that Google takes, the inevitable Pixel 4 5G would likely make an appearance prior to next year’s iPhone 5G, which should make its debut in September 2020 with a Qualcomm 5G modem onboard. Based on current leaks, here are the expected specifications for the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL:
- Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 855
- RAM: 6GB
- Storage: 64GB or 128GB
- Display: 5.7-inch (Full HD+) 90Hz, 6.3-inch (QHD+) 90Hz
- Cameras: 12-megapixel dual-pixel + 16-megapixel telephoto
- Audio: Stereo speakers
- Wired Connectivity: USB-C
- Battery: 2800 mAh, 3700 mAh
- Features: Face Unlock, motion sensor
- Security: Titan M security module
- OS: Android with 3 years of security and OS updates
It’s expected that Google will also announced a new Pixelbook notebook and new smart speakers at next week’s event. It’s also possible that the company may release its first Pixel-branded smartwatch using the Wear OS to counter the dominant Apple Watch.
