Google Updates Search App For Android With Camera Voice Commands So You Don’t Miss A Shot Or Video Memory

Somewhere in the land of missed opportunities are millions, if not billions of fantastic photographs and videos that were never taken. Maybe not Pulitizer Prize worthy, but definitely some real gems that we'll unfortunately never get to see. Why not? Think about how many times a fleeting photo opportunity presented itself and passed you by as you tried to load your camera. It happens all the time, though hopefully a little less often with Google's updated Search App on Android.

Instead of tapping in vain to open up your phone's camera app in time to take a picture of a skittish bird that's getting ready to fly way, you can now use your voice (just don't scream, it will have the same effect on a skittish creature).


"The first home run in T-ball, the surprise proposal, or just that gorgeous sunset... Sometimes the perfect photo passes you by as you fumble with your phone to open the camera app. Now with the Google Search App on Android, you can just tap the microphone or say 'Ok Google,' then 'take a photo' or 'take a video.' Google will launch your camera app in the preferred mode," Google announced on its social network.

You'll get the best results from a Nexus handset and Google Play Edition phones, though you can use the feature with other Android phones as well. We tested it on an HTC One by telling it to "Take a picture," which prompted Android to open up the camera app. Pretty nifty.
