Google’s Next Gen Nexus 8 “Flounder” Device May Have Peeked Its Head Up In KitKat MR2

A couple of weeks ago, a rumor emerged that Google was collaborating with HTC on a new Nexus tablet with an 8-inch display. Further evidence has emerged that the two companies are working on--something--and it may very well be the aforementioned tablet.

XDA Developers found some code in the Android 4.4.3 (KitKat MR2) changelist that reveals a device made by HTC with the code name “Flounder”. The aquatic naming scheme fits with previous Google hardware.

The Google Nexus 7 (pictured above) could be getting a big brother

There are no other identifying details available, so we’re making an assumption here, but it would certainly make sense, given previous rumors, that “Flounder” will be the Nexus 8 tablet.

There’s also a mysterious device in the changelog called “Molly”, manufactured by Google. That one’s more of a mystery, but one line in the code references a set-top box. Could it be that Google is making an Android-powered STB?
