Google's Pixel 4 XL Packs A Mighty Punch In These Speculative Renders

We’ve heard a lot of rumors surrounding the upcoming Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, and today a new leak is giving us some more insight into how the smartphones may actually look. Our first taste of the new design came back in mid-January, when drawings of a supposed Google Pixel 4 with a notch-free display and dual speakers showed up online.

The latest “leak” comes courtesy of new drawings sourced from SlashLeaks. While the overall design of the drawings match the January leak, there are three key differences. For starters, there are two cameras on the back, which bucks the trend of the previous three generations of Pixel smartphones. It’s possible, however, that the smartphone design shown in January was the Pixel 4, while this could be of the Pixel 4 XL (which could gain higher-end specs).

The second difference is the addition of a punch hole cutout in the display to accommodate two front-facing cameras. This gives the device – from the front at least – a look that is similar to the current Samsung Galaxy S10+.

The third discrepancy between the two leaks comes with regards to the fingerprint reader, although again, this could boil down to differences between the Pixel 4 and the Pixel 4 XL. Today’s leak dispenses with the rear-mounted fingerprint reader and instead adopts a trendy in-display sensor like a growing number of Android flagships.

Using the new drawings as a basis, the folks over at PhoneArenahave created renders of what the final version of the Pixel 4 XL could look like. We must say, with the renders do look rather good, but it remains to be seen if customers will favor the punch hole cutout for the selfie cams over the widely panned notch on the Pixel 3 XL.

As for hardware specs, it’s pretty much a given that the Pixel 4 family will use Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 855 processor, although it’s unlikely that Google will be pairing it up with a Snapdragon X50 5G modem. Hopefully, Google have the forethought to bump the amount of included RAM from 4GB to at least 6GB or 8GB, and we’d also like to see internal storage maximums bumped to at least 512GB.

If all goes according to schedule, we should see an official unveil of the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL sometime in October.
