Google's Schmidt Sees More Google TV Partners Coming

Thought Google TV was as washed-up as Buzz and Wave? Not so fast. While Google TV had a ton of hype behind it, the high cost of entry and not-exactly-seamless integration left many critics and consumers wanting more. But unlike some efforts that fall flat for Google, the company isn't giving up hope on this one just yet. According to a new Reuters report, the company's CEO Eric Schmidt "sees more partners for Google TV." In fact, the fellow said that they are "absolutely committed" to Google TV, and when more partners (unnamed) join up soon, things will certainly be turned around.

When asked to elaborate about which partners would be coming, he said the following: "I believe that they're both going to be on board and I believe there are many more coming. Wait shortly for an announcement." What a tease! It's possible that the acquisition of Motorola Mobility (which includes the set-top box division) could play into this; we hate to read between the lines, but if Google could begin to install their software of Moto boxes that cable companies use, well, that'd be a huge boon for them.

Either way, it's good to hear that Google TV isn't fading into the sunset just yet; it always sounded like a great idea with poor execution. Maybe the second time's a charm.
