GoPro cameras were the only action cameras out there for a while, but that's definitely not the case today. There are a bunch of different competitors targeting the action market. In July, Canon rolled out a camera called the IVY REC that aimed right at the GoPro. Not to be outdone, GoPro has unveiled its latest action cameras called the Hero8 Black and the Max along with new mods that go with the camera.

The new Hero8 Black camera has some new features that help it to record better video, including HyperSmooth 2.0 video stabilization. HyperSmooth 2.0 dramatically improves stabilization over version 1.0. GoPro notes that Hypersmooth 2.0 works in all resolutions and frame rates and has a Boost mode and in-app horizon leveling.

Another new feature is TimeWarp 2.0 with automatic rate adjustment and tap-control speed ramping. The camera has four digital lenses to select a field of view, improve audio, and enhance wind suppression. The camera also features customizable mode presets and lighter frameless design with folding mounting fingers.

GoPro has also announced accessories for the Hero8 Black that includes a Media Mod for $79.99, Display Mod for $79.99, and the Light Mod for $49.99. Another new camera has debuted called the GoPro Max that is described as having three cameras in one. Max can be used as a waterproof, maximum stabilized single-lens camera, a dual-lens 360-degree camera, or a "next-level" Vlogging camera with an integrated front-facing screen.

Features include "unbreakable video stabilization," Max HyperSmooth, in-camera 360-degree video, and photo stitching. The camera also supports keyframe-based editing of 360 content in the GoPro app. The GoPro Hero8 Black sells for $399 while the Max sells for $499.
