Guinness World Records Names Call of Duty Best Franchise Ever, Over GTA And Mario Bros
The Guinness World Records 2015 Gamer’s Edition was released on November 6 for gamers who might be curious as to the longest gaming session, which franchise has earned the most in gross sales, or just basic facts and figures related to gaming. One particular topic that tends to generate discussion is what game franchise is the best. For Guinness, Activision’s first-person shooter franchise, Call of Duty, beat out other franchises, such as Grand Theft Auto and Mario Bros, to be named the best franchise ever.
“More than 5,000 fans of the book from 140 countries across the world took to an online poll to vote for their favorite games, and the top 50 record-breaking games were featured in the book,” said Guinness World Records editor-in-chief Craig Glenday to The Independent.
The top ten franchises or games of the list, in order, were Call of Duty, Super Mario Bros., Minecraft, Grand Theft Auto, Halo, The Legend of Zelda, FIFA, Assassin’s Creed, Battlefield, and The Elder Scrolls.
The release of the Guinness World Records 2015 Gamer’s Edition, and revelation of the Call of Duty franchise’s win in the category, coincides with the release of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare which features actor Kevin Spacey. However, the new game has been experiencing some performance issues with its multiplayer campaign on some platforms which has prompted the developer, Sledgehammer Games, to work on an update.
