Guns, Money, And Explosions: EA Releases Insane Live-Action Battlefield Hardline Trailer

The much anticipated first person shooter Battlefield Hardline released to retail in North America today for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Windows (it will launch in the EU on March 19th and in the UK on March 20). With the release comes a new live action trailer that plays out like preview for an action movie flick.

Developed by Visceral Games in collaboration with EA Digital Illusions CE and published by Electronic Arts, the game is notable because it deviates from previous Battlefield titles by focusing on the age-old cops and robbers theme rather than traditional military engagements. As such, it's a different kind of game play, one that's been garnering mixed reviews so far.

The critics at Kotaku noted that Hardline "tries real hard not to be Battlfield," adding that its success will ultimately depend on multiplayer.

"The single player is competent[...]But it never becomes the cop game it wants to be, or could have been, because it fails to distance itself enough from Battlefield. It's as if it's wearing a police hat over the top of the army one and it's a disguise that only works if you don't look too closely," the site notes.


Several reviews around the web have scored the game anywhere from 6/10 to 8/10. The Six Axis was one of the sites that gave the game a higher score, noting that "it's a different take on the Battlefield series, with many of the same core elements but a shifted focal point and a slightly faster pace to the running and gunning."

We've yet to play and/or review the game ourselves, but in the meantime, it looks as though Hardline is a decent successor that may not quite live up to expectations, but is still a fun ride.
