Hacker Vows To Livestream Deletion Of Mark's Zuckerberg Facebook Account

Mark Zuckerberg is about to get “Zucc’d”. White-hat hackers usually help to plug security holes, but one hacker has promised to thrust Facebook into chaos. Taiwanese bug bounty hunter Chang Chi-yuan recently announced that he will livestream an attempt to hack into Zuckerberg's Facebook account.

The 24 year-old hacker announced to his 26,000 Facebook followers that he will broadcast “the deletion of FB founder Zuck’s account”. The deletion is scheduled for Sunday, September 30th at 6pm NST (6am EST). Chang will stream the event on his own Facebook page.

Chang is a minor celebrity in Taiwan and has appeared on a number of talk shows. He was recently sued by a bus operator after he hacked into their system and purchased bus tickets for NT$1 (roughly $0.03 USD). At the beginning of September, he declared that he had found a loophole in Apple Pay. He posted a screenshot of him purchasing 500 iPhones for NT$1. Most of his claims are unverified.

Chang is one of the many bug bounty hunters who receive money for finding flaws in websites and software. He has expressed that he does not want to be regarded as a “proper hacker”. He remarked in a recent Facebook post “I'm just bored and try to dabble so that I can earn some money."

Many companies offer generous compensation to bug-bounty hunters. This past spring, Facebook promised to give up to $40,000 USD to hackers who were able to unearth widespread data abuse violations. Researchers Vladimir Kiriansky and Carl Waldspurger discovered a flaw in Intel’s software over the summer and were rewarded $100,000 USD.

Chang’s success would not bode well for Facebook’s reputation. This summer Facebook revealed that a software bug automatically suggested that users post publicly. This bug reportedly affected over 14 million users. The social media giant was also sued after their stocks plummeted in July. The lawsuit claimed that Facebook had failed to reveal to their investors that their revenue growth had slowed.

Chang has made a big promise that could potentially damage reputations. It will be interesting to see if he will be able to pull of this feat.
