High-Powered Celebrity Lawyer Rips Into Google Demanding Removal Of Stolen iCloud Picks From The Web
The fallout from the recent celebgate scandal is still being experienced and Google is the latest to feel its effects. Marty Singer, an attorney for Hollywood celebrities, has demanded that Google remove all the leaked images from its platforms or the company will have to deal with a $100 million lawsuit.
Hackers were able to gain access to a plethora of celebrities’ iPhones and walk away with hundreds of racy or nude photos from celebrities such as Jennifer Lawrence, Kirsten Dunst, and Kate Upton. Singer, who claims he is representing more than a dozen celebrities who were affected by the iCloud hack which led to the photos being stolen, sent a letter to Google that criticized the company for its, "despicable, reprehensible conduct in not only failing to act expeditiously and responsibly to remove the Images, but in knowingly accommodating, facilitating and perpetuating the unlawful conduct."
"Because the victims are celebrities with valuable publicity rights, you do nothing -- nothing but collect millions of dollars in advertising revenue from your co-conspirator advertising partners as you seek to capitalize on this scandal rather than quash it,” states Singer’s letter. “Like the NFL, which turned a blind eye while its players assaulted and victimized women and children, Google has turned a blind eye while its sites repeatedly exploit and victimize these women."
Google, in the meantime, claims it has undertaken endeavors to remove the photos. According to a Google spokesperson who spoke to CNN, “We've removed tens of thousands of pictures -- within hours of the requests being made -- and we have closed hundreds of accounts. The Internet is used for many good things. Stealing people's private photos is not one of them."
Marty Singer has yet to disclose who he is representing for this case.
