Holy Roller Priest Suspended For Singing Hymns While Riding A Hoverboard
There's no commandment that reads, 'Thou shalt not ride a hoverboard in church' but apparently it's something that's frowned upon by the Diocese of San Pablo. A Catholic priest in the Philippines found that out after being suspended for rolling back and forth between pews while singing "May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You."
A cell phone captured his fun spirited stunt on video, which later went viral. In the video, you see the priest riding one of the hottest toys (literally hot, in some cases) this holiday season much to the delight of the crowd in attendance. For a couple of minutes he was a bit of a rock star, but simply put, his superiors deemed his actions "wrong."
"The Eucharist demands utmost respect and reverence. It is the Memorial of the Lord’s Sacrifice. It is the source and summit of Christian life. It is the Church’s highest form of worship. Consequently, it is not a personal celebration where one can capriciously introduce something to get the attention of the people," the Diocese of San Pablo said in a statement.
Speaking on behalf of the priest, the Diocese of San Pablo said he acknowledged it was a "wake up call for him...and promised that it will not happen again." That is, when he's allowed to return. For now he's "out of the parish and will spend some time to reflect" on his holy hoverboard incident.
Stuffy much? While it's not my call to make, I think the real sin here is the fellow who recorded the video vertically. C'mon people, just say no to vertical videos!
