When And How To Download Apple iOS 12 To Help Make Your Old iPhone Fast Again

We already know quite a bit about iOS 12 and what it will add to the iPhone when it lands. We know that iOS will feature a restricted USB mode that will make it much harder for authorities to crack the iPhone in an investigation. We also know that iOS 12 will bring Live Listen to the AirPods wireless earphones to help those with hearing difficulties to hear in a crowded environment. Apple has also confirmed other features like Memoji, group FaceTime, ARKit 2.0, and Siri Shortcuts.

This leaves the only real question for iPhone users being when exactly they can download iOS 12. For most iPhone users iOS 12 will launch in September, the traditional launch for new versions of the operating system. September has been the launch date for each major release of iOS going back many years. The likely day for launch this time out is September 18, 2018 which is a Thursday.

If you don’t want to wait that long, Apple typically launches public beta versions of its iOS software to give the adventurous out there an early look. Apple is expected to do the same thing with iOS 12. To take advantage of a public beta you will need to sign up for the Beta Software Program. You also need to be willing to endure bugs and other errors that could possibly leave your device unusable. If you are willing to take the risks, you can sign up here.

Historically Apple has offered up those public betas in late June or early July. That means that the first public beta could only be weeks away. Some developers are already testing iOS 12 as Apple has in the past launched the software for devs at its developer's conference to allow devs to get apps ready to work on the new flavor of iOS. To do that you have to be registered as an Apple Developer, and that costs $99 for most. After signing up, you can download the software via Xcode, the software used for iPhone app building.
