HP Elite X3 Phablet Brings Beastly Snapdragon 820, 6-inch QHD Display To Windows 10 Mobile

"Gentleman, you had my curiosity, but now you have my attention.” We first heard word that Hewlett-Packard was looking to get back into the smartphone game with a Windows 10 Mobile device back in late December. Codenamed “Falcon,” we were only greeted with some GFXBench results and accompanying specs for the device and little more.

However, a Hungarian site has actually uncovered images of HP’s Windows 10 Mobile smartphone prototype, and it’s called the Elite X3. We must say, this is one sleek looking device thanks to its plastic and metal construction and the groovy speaker cutouts below the massive display.

More importantly, if you thought that the Lumia 950 XL was a premium Windows 10 Mobile, the Elite X3 take things to a whole new level. The report claims that the smartphone features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with a generous 4GB of RAM, 5.96-inch QHD display, 32GB of onboard storage and a microSD slot that can accommodate up to an additional 200GB.

Also on tap are 16MP rear and 8MP front-facing cameras, a USB-C charging/data port, fingerprint scanner, iris scanner for Windows Hello support, Qi wireless charging, IP67 dust/water resistance rating and a MIL-STD-810 rating for drops. And if that wasn’t enough, the Elite x3 even supports Continuum (as you would expect with the stout Snapdragon 820 processor).

These aren’t just stellar specs for a Windows 10 Mobile device; these are specs that we’d kill for in any smartphone these days. Windows 10 Mobile might be an also-ran in the mobile operating system market, but it isn’t going down without a fight if HP has anything to say about it.

So what when are we going to see an official unveil of the Elite X3? All signs point to a public debut at MWC 2016 next week.
