HP Envy X2 2-in-1 Snapdragon 835 Windows 10 Convertible Now Available For Preorder
It looks like HP is anticipating strong demand for Windows 10 laptops and convertibles powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 processor. One of HP's first devices built around the mobile chip is the Envy x2 (model 12-e011nr), a premium 2-in-1 that is now available to order, for $999.99. It's a good thing HP did not charge a penny more, because then we'd have to pan the thousand-dollar price tag—phew!
Jesting aside, the asking price is high for a Windows 10 convertible with an ARM processor inside rather than a x86 chip. The selling points are built-in 4G LTE connectivity and long battery life. With the former, users are more easily able to hop online, rather than having to hunt down a Wi-Fi hotspot. And with the latter, these devices boast exceptionally long run times—HP is claiming up to 22 hours, in this case.
In addition to the aforementioned Snapdragon chip, the Envy x2 sports 4GB of LPDDR4-3733 RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. It also features 802.11ac 2x2 Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, a 13-megapixel rear facing camera, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, three integrated digital microphones, Bang & Olufsen dual speakers, a full-size island-style keyboard with backlight, and a stylus.
The port selection consists of a USB 3.1 Type-C port (data, DisplayPort 1.3, and power delivery), a nano-SIM slot, and a headphone/microphone combo jack.
Circling back to the Snapdragon 835 SoC, it is an octa-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz to 2.6GHz, with Adreno 540 graphics. It powers the laptop's 12.3-inch IPS display, which features a 1920x1280 resolution, edge-to-edge glass, and a protective Gorilla Glass layer. All of this runs on Windows 10 S.
From what we can tell, it's a nice looking 2-in-1 that is similar in style to Microsoft's Surface Laptops. Whether the allure of long battery life and 4G LTE mobile connectivity will be enough to command a $999.99 asking price is something customers can start answer.
