HP Tricks Out Its Envy Laptop With Wood Finish, Unveils Other Stylish Designs For Millennials
There is a lot happening at Computex, including new processors from both AMD and Intel, and a whole bunch of new products from OEMs and peripheral makers. HP is the among the companies with new stuff on the way. Or more accurately, refreshed products. In an attempt to appeal to millennials, HP announced a new wood option for its Envy laptops.
HP is no stranger to trying out alternative materials outside of the traditional metal, plastic, and carbon fiber designs that have been a staple of PC laptops for a long time. Late last year, for example, HP wrapped its Spectre Folio in supple, textured leather. Now it's dabbling in wood for a different audience.
"Fifty-seven percent of millennials know the PC they want as soon as they see it, so HP is delivering the new HP Envy Wood Series, delighting customers with thoughtful, personal, and sophisticated designs," HP says.
Interested parties will find the new "authentic wood" option available on the Envy 13, Envy x360 13, Envy x360 15, and Envy 17 Wood Series. Underneath the dead tree skin, these laptops will pack new next-gen Intel Core and second generation AMD Ryzen mobile processors with Vega graphics.
"Each PC is accented with one-of-a-kind authentic wood inlay in three exquisite combinations: Nightfall Black with Natural Walnut, Ceramic White with White Birch, or Natural Silver with Pale Birch. The HP Envy Wood Series includes features like Amazon’s Alexa Service, Modern Standby, Wake on Voice, Wake on Fingerprint reader, along with privacy and peace-of-mind with HP Sure View and the HP Webcam Kill Switch solution," HP says.
HP is also refreshing its Elitebook line with stylish upgrades and new hardware. The Elite x2 G4 is set to be the first business detachable with a leather keyboard folio, while the EliteBook x360 1030 G4 is being pitched as the world's smallest and lightest business convertible with 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5 connectivity.
For creators, HP is boosting its ZBook 15 G6 and ZBook 17 G6 with new 9th generation Intel Core and Xeon processor options and next-generation NVIDIA Quadro RTX graphics. It's not clear if any of these will be NVIDIA Studio certified.
HP also announced new entry workstations and a VR Backback, the latter of which is intended for both VR creation and consumption (developers and consumers, in other words). It's powered by an 8th generation Intel Core i7 processor and GeForce RTX 2080 GPU, giving it a 30 percent performance boost and 25 percent more graphics horsepower than the previous generation.
The HP Envy Wood Series will be available in the fall, with pricing details to be announced at a later date. HP's various other products will start showing up in June, July, and August at various price points.
