HTC EVO 4G Becomes Fastest Selling Sprint Phone Ever

HTC's EVO 4G isn't just America's only (and first) 4G handset, it's also the hottest selling Sprint phone of all time. Before this weekend's launch, Sprint's Pre and Instinct held this record of best selling launch-day phone, but now the EVO 4G has taken the crown. Some might say it's no real surprise given the hype surrounding it, but we're not so sure that HTC and Sprint don't deserve even more credit for the accomplishment. The EVO 4G is sort of a tough sell; it requires $10 more per month for a data plan compared to every other smartphone, and there are only a handful of 4G areas. Despite the low availability, every single EVO 4G buyer, regardless of home address, has to pay the extra $10/month.

On top of all of that, every single Sprint buyer almost certainly knows that Apple is about to release a new iPhone, and rather than waiting to just see if there was anything they'd like, the opted to get the EVO 4G instead. That speaks volumes to us. According to Sprint, Friday sales of the EVO 4G "marked the largest quantity of a single phone sold in one day ever for Sprint," and in addition, the "total number of HTC EVO 4G devices sold on launch day was three times the number of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices sold over their first three days on the market combined."

Sprint even confessed that shortages were felt at some locations, but that additional shipments are coming on a daily basis. So, did you spring for the EVO 4G? Or are you waiting to see what card(s) Apple plays?
