HTC Unveils Dazzling U11 Plus Flagship With Huge Battery, Small Bezels And Translucent Body
It has been rumored for several weeks now that HTC was coming out with a new smartphone that has a full front display, and it turns out the chatter was true. HTC today announced a couple of new phones, the U11 Life and U11+, the latter of which is the more interesting of the two. It is a stunning phone with a 6-inch Super LCD display with a 2880x1440 resolution and HDR10 support, and we almost feel guilty telling you about it. Why? HTC is not releasing it in the United States—drats!
Apparently HTC felt that launching the U11+ in the US would offend users who purchased the recent U11 model. We can see the logic there (to an extent), but it is too bad because the U11+ is a worthy phone that gives other flagships a run for their money. Powering the device is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 SoC, pretty much the go-to processor for most top-end Android phones these days (like Razer's new phone).
This is flanked by either 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage, or 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage, depending on the model. For taking pictures, the U11+ has a 12-megapixel UltraPixel 3 rear sensor (f/1.7 aperture) with optical image stabilization, and an 8-megapixel front shooter (f/2.0 aperture). Other features include 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC support, a fingerprint sensor, and a 3,930 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 technology. On the software side, it runs Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, with HTC Sense drizzled on top.
The new phone features HTC's Edge Sense tech, which lets users squeeze the phone to open the Edge Launch to access apps and notifications with one hand. It also boasts IP68 certification for water resistance, and Gorilla Glass 5 for added durability.
Overall the HTC U11+ is a worthy flagship that will be available in three color options—Ceramic Black, Amazing Silver, and Translucent Black, the latter of which is partially see-through. None of them will be available in the US, now or anytime in the future (unless HTC changes its mind).
