Huawei Has Homegrown Replacements For Android And Windows In Case Of Potential US Ban

Huawei has seen massive growth in the smartphone market in part because prices for Apple and Samsung devices have soared. Huawei is very popular outside of the U.S., but the company has virtually no marketshare inside the U.S. due to the government urging carriers not to offer its devices over fears of spying. In January 2019, the U.S. DOJ filed criminal charges against Huawei for alleged trade secret theft, bank fraud, and obstruction of justice. Huawei has now filed suit against the U.S. government over product bans in the States.

Despite Huawei fighting the U.S. government in court, the company is preparing for the worst. The worst-case scenario for its products isn't that the ban of its devices continues, but that it will be cut off from the operating systems for computers and smartphones that its buyers want. If Huawei was prevented from using Android and Windows, it has backup operating systems ready to roll.

Huawei has developed its own smartphone and PC operating systems, but it is very clear that its own software is a plan B. Huawei has stated that the company doesn't expect to use the operating systems going so far as to say it didn't want to use them. Huawei says that it "fully supports" the operating systems it uses from its partners going so far as to say that it and its customers "love" using them and that Android and Windows will remain the first choices.

Huawei was reportedly pushed to develop its doomsday operating systems after a U.S. ban was placed on Chinese rival ZTE. No details on the alternative operating systems have been offered. It would be catastrophic for Huawei to be forced to turn to its own operating systems if the software could not run apps and programs made for Windows and Android.
