Huawei Mate 20 Pro May Debut With iPhone XS Max Slaying 4200 mAh Battery, Triple Rear Cameras

Huawei is set to unveil its Mate 20 Pro at an even in London on October 16^th, but we've already heard quite a bit about the new flagship smartphone courtesy of leaks. A new report, however, is giving us a broad overview of what to expect, and by all account the Mate 20 Pro will be an absolute beast.

For starters, the smartphone will be powered by Huawei's brand new 7nm Kirin 980 processor, which is manufactured by TSMC. The 8-core mobile chip is said to have a maximum clock speed of 2.6GHz and can will be paired with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM. There will be plenty of storage at your disposal, as Huawei will make available 128GB, 256GB and 512GB SKUs for customers.

Huawei introduced us to a triple-camera setup with last year's P20 Pro, and this year's update will continue that tradition. According to reports, the main camera will feature a 40MP sensor (f/1.8), while the telephoto zoom (5x) will feature a 20MP sensor. Finally, there will also be another 8MP sensor for the wide-angle lens. The front-facing camera will chime in with a 24MP sensor.

As for the display, look for a 6.38-inch panel with a resolution of 3120x1440. The phone will feature a notch (which is a growing trend in the Android community) that will house both the selfie camera and a facial recognition system. Although not many smartphones on the market currently have this feature, the Mate 20 Pro will adopt an in-display fingerprint reader.

The last spec that we’ll mention which is no doubt impressive is the Mate 20 Pro's battery. It's reported to have a capacity of 4,200 mAh, which is up from 4,000 mAh on the Mate 10 Pro and P20 Pro. It's also larger than the battery master Galaxy Note 9, which also features a 4,000 mAh power source. For comparison, even the iPhone XS Max -- which has the largest battery ever fitted to an iPhone -- only has a 3,179 mAh battery. 

Needless to say, it should be an interesting few months as we close out 2018. Besides the Mate 20 Pro, Huawei is also promising to unveil its folding smartphone (something that Samsung is also working to release before year's end). In addition, the OnePlus 6T is just weeks away from launch. It's a great time to be in the market for a flagship smartphone; as long as you don't mind putting up with the rising costs.
