Huawei Mate 20X Gaming Phone Rumored To Rock 7.21-inch Display And Kirin 980 SoC
Smartphones have typically fallen into one of three categories, those being entry-level, mid-range, and high-end or flagship. There is a blurring of the lines between categories, but for the most part, handsets makers have taken a three-tier approach. More recently, however, gaming smartphones have become a legitimate thing, and Huawei might be the joining the fray.
The company teased what looks to be a gaming smartphone on Twitter. It's a short 10-second clip showing a smartphone shrouded in a block of ice, revealed to be the Mate 20X by one of the hashtags. "In the heat of battle, stay cool with #HuaweiMate20X," the tweet reads.

This is a surprise entry that will sit alongside two other high-end smartphones, the upcoming Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro, both expected to launch during a press event next week. There have been leaks for both of those handsets, but this is the first mention of a Mate 20X model. Huawei shows the Mate 20X playing a game for the entirety of the teaser, though it's impossible to make out any concrete details.
Scrolling the comments section, however, is another story. One of the comments brings up Huawei's recently launched Kirin 980 processor and how excited he is for the Mate 20X to arrive, to which Huawei responds, "Not long to wait now!" That doesn't necessarily mean the Mate 20X will feature a Kirin 980, but we'd be surprised if it didn't.
It's also rumored the Mate 20X will wield a massive 7.21-inch OLED display with a 2240x1080 resolution. That would make it the largest of the three upcoming Mate 20 phones (if the rumors are true), with the Mate 20 Pro sporting a 6.39-inch display with a 3120x1440 resolution, and the Mate 20 having a 6.53-inch screen with a 2240x1080 resolution.
All will be revealed soon enough—Huawei is holding a launch event in London on October 16, which is a week from today.
