Huawei Nova 4 Gets Official With In-Display Selfie Cam, 48MP Main Camera And Budget Pricing
Huawei on Monday announced its Nova 4 smartphone with a full front display that is similar looking to Samsung's Infinity-O screen found on its recently launched Galaxy A8s (and upcoming Galaxy S10). Like Samsung's handset, the Nova 4 ditches the bezel and sports a punch-hole design in the upper-left corner for the front-facing camera.
Judging by the press renders we've seen, the Nova 4's front-facing camera hole is slightly smaller than the one on the Galaxy A8s. The smaller design arguably makes it less of a visual distraction. Regardless, it packs a lot of megapixels—25 million, to be exact, with an f/2.0 aperture, 1080p video recording, and anti-shake support.
It's a rather big screen, measuring 6.4 inches with a 2314x1080 resolution. Huawei says it offers 96 percent coverage of the NTSC color space. It's powered by a reasonably powerful Kirin 970 system-on-chip (SoC), which is an eight-core chip (four Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.36GHz for CPU intensive tasks and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz for less demanding workloads).
Other specs include 8GB of RAM, 128GB of onboard storage, and a 3,750 mAh lithium-polymer battery (non removable, of course). There's no mention of there being a microSD card slot, though 128GB is a generous allotment.
Flipping the phone around reveals more similarities to the Galaxy A8s, at least in how it looks. Both phones place the rear cameras in a vertical column on the upper-left side, with an LED flash underneath it all. IN this case, there is a 48-megapixel main camera, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2-megapixel depth of field sensor.
It's a premium looking handset with a robust set of features, at a reasonable price—it's available now in China for 3,399 yuan, which is around $490 in US currency.
