Insignia Introduces 8" Infocast Internet Media Display

It's still too early to tell whether these types of information displays are going to be a hit in the mainstream, but with Sony entering with the Dash, there's at least a slight chance. Chumby Industries has been creating these types of displays, which are basically a digital photo frame but with web connectivity and access to a number of widgets. These displays are used to easily check the weather, check e-mail and browser photos, video and music.

Insignia, which is Best Buy's brand of consumer electronics, has just introduced another option in this growing product segment: the 8" Infocast Internet Media Display. The device has an 800x600 resolution touch display, 2GB of internal storage for multi-media, integrated Wi-Fi, software by Chumby and a media card reader for adding even more content. It's also able to access popular Internet content and services like Pandora Internet Radio, SHOUTcast, Photobucket and more than 1,500 apps from Chumby.

The Infocast is available for pre-sale now at $169.99, with a "Coming Soon" listed for availability.
