Intel Core i7-9550U 9th Gen Core Flagship Low-Power Mobile CPU Leaked
Intel has already refreshed its desktop processor family with a 9th generation Core CPU series culminating in its first-ever 8-core/16-thread chip (Core i9-9900K) for the mainstream market, and pretty soon, the 9th gen moniker will port over to mobile, too. Among them is a new flagship part, the Core i7-9550U.
We don't know all of the fine grain details yet, and really only know the model names, from which we can extrapolate what 8th generation processors (Whiskey Lake-U) each of the upcoming 9th gen ones are meant to replace. Here's what we're looking at:
- Core i7-9550U (replaces Core i7-8565U)
- Core i5-9250U (replaces Core i5-8265U)
- Core i3-9130U (replaces Core i3-8145U)
None of the new 9th gen parts are official, at least in the sense that Intel has not formally introduced them yet. However, the folks at WCCFTech spotted a listing (PDF) on Lenovo's website that references all three models as processor options for its IdeaPad S530, a 2-in-1 laptop with a 13-inch IPS display, up to 16GB of RAM, up to 512GB of storage, and a discrete NVIDIA GeForce MX150 GPU (Pascal) option.
Here's a snapshot of the listing...
What we don't expect are any jumps in core and thread counts. Both the Core i7 and Core i5 parts are said to be quad-core CPUs with Hyper Threading support, the former with 8MB of L3 cache and the latter with 6MB of L3 cache. And the Core i3 CPU reportedly will be a dual-core chip with 4MB of L3 cache. None of these specs have been confirmed, however.
Information on pricing and availability will have to wait for another day.
