Intel Doubles Lightning Fast Optane SSD DC P4800X Capacity To 750GB
Intel today announced that its speed demon Optane SSD DC P4800X, which by most measures is among the fastest SSDs that money can buy, will be available in a new 750GB SKU. Like its less capacious sibling, the new 750GB SSD will be available in half-height, half-length (HHHL) add-in card and 2.5-inch U.2 form factors. This capacity bump should help relieve storage anxiety for companies that need the performance that Optane can provide while keeping physical space constraints in check.
"Increased capacity and multiple form factors expand data center implementation options and deliver both solution-level and total cost of ownership flexibility for customers," the company writes. "Intel Optane technology for data centers combines the attributes of memory and storage with low latency, high endurance, outstanding quality of service and high throughput, creating a new data tier that increases scale per server and reduces transaction costs."
The Optane SSD DC P4800X is expected be paired with Intel's latest Xeon Scalable processor family, which include multi-core beasts like the 28-core, 56-thread Xeon Platinum 8180.
Intel says that both the HHHL and U.2 versions of the 750GB Optane SSD DC P4800X will be available later this month. Given that the current 375GB model retails for around $1,800 on Amazon, expect to pay through the nose for its more spacious sibling.
