iOS 13 Rumored To Feature Dark Mode And New iPad Gesture Commands To Enhance Multitasking

The first addition is something that has been requested from Apple fans for a long time: a true systemwide dark mode. Apple has already introduced dark mode with macOS, so it’s only natural that the company would want to extend this feature to iOS. According to 9to5Mac, the feature won’t be enabled by default, and will instead be accessible via the Settings menu.

A rather interesting new addition with iOS 13 is a new multi-window feature for apps. This seems like it would be geared more towards the iPad family of tablets. The publication describes the features, writing, “Each window will also be able to contain sheets that are initially attached to a portion of the screen, but can be detached with a drag gesture, becoming a card that can be moved around freely.”

Apple is also said to be making improvements to the long-standing Mail app to intelligently categorize mail and will add a “read later” feature. Safari is going to be upgraded to automatically request the desktop version of a website on large-screen iOS devices like the iPad Pro. Currently, navigating phone-optimized versions of website with an iPad can sometimes be a frustrating experience, requiring you to manually invoke the “Request Desktop Site” option from the URL bar in iOS 12.

One productivity-related feature that is said to be on the way is the ability to select multiple items at once using a drag-and-tap gesture with multiple fingers. There’s also reportedly a new three-finger gesture (swiping left or right) used in conjunction with the on-screen keyboard to undo/redo text with an iPad. This would be far more convenient that the current method of shaking the tablet like a madman to undo text.

There are number of other small tweaks mentioned in the source link below, but don’t expect a dramatic rethink of iOS this time around. But for those that prefer continued refinement to an operating system that they use on a daily basis, it looks as though Apple is hitting a lot of the right notes.
