Is China Playing Hardball with Google by Blocking Nexus 7 Imports?
It's said that love hath no fury like a woman scorned, but in the world of business, China is acting like one angry...country. Rather than embrace Google's nifty Nexus 7 tablet built by Asus, China's government has yet to approve the device for import, and it might be doing it out of spite.
Some are viewing China's feet dragging as a power play, one in which revenge is the motivating factor. China and Google's relationship is a contentious one, and it only got worse when Google announced it was pulling its search engine out of the country back in March 2010. At the time, Google felt it had no other choice if China was to insist that it continue self-censoring search results, which is something Google grew tired of doing.
It's being reported that Google will now have a difficult time getting its Nexus 7 device into China. That's too bad for consumers in the area, though China's white box vendors -- companies like Ainol, Onda, Teclast, and Cube -- are just fine with not having to compete with the Nexus 7, which in addition to being a stellar 7-inch tablet, also has brand recognition on its side.
