iTunes Store: Over 25 Billion Songs Served (and Counting)
In case you're curious, the 25 billionth song was "Monkey Drums" by Chase Buch. Phillip Lüpke, who purchased the milestone track, will receive a €10,000 (he's from Germany) iTunes Gift Card for his impeccable timing.
"We are grateful to our users whose passion for music over the past 10 years has made iTunes the number one music retailer in the world," said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. "Averaging over 15,000 songs downloaded per minute, the iTunes Store connects music fans with their favorite artists, including global sensations like Adele and Coldplay and new artists like The Lumineers, on a scale we never imagined possible."
iTunes is now home to over 26 million songs and 775,000 apps available in 119 countries. In addition to serving up 25 billion downloads, Apple users have snagged 40 billion apps since the store opened, almost half of which were downloaded in 2012.
