Leeo Smart Alert Nightlight Calls You Or Your Backup If Your CO Or Fire Alarms Go Off

Google may have purchased Nest for $3.2 billion to kickstart its expansion into the Internet of Things (IoT), but that hasn’t deterred other companies and startups from developing their own connected products. While Google Nest has its connected smoke detector, Leeo is also looking to compete in the market with its Leeo Smart Alert Nightlight.

Don’t let the name fool you. The Smart Alert Nightlight is a useful smoke detector that will alert the homeowner whenever it detects smoke or carbon monoxide. However, it won’t just sound off an alarm and do nothing else like a regular smoke detector. Once it has been plugged into an outlet and connected to a home’s WiFi, it will send an alert to your phone, or friends and families that have been designated as backups, should you be unable to answer the alert.

In addition to sending out an alert, should the device detect anything amiss, it will give users the option to listen to the sounds that the device is picking up with its built-in microphone, call 911, or tag it as a false alarm with their smartphone. Users will also be able to change the color of the device's light from a choice of 16 million options, lower and increase the brightness of the light, and even set climate alerts.

However, the Smart Alert Nightlight is only compatible with the iPhone 4S or later and the iPod Touch 5th generation or later with iOS 7 or higher.

“At its core, the Smart Alert Nightlight is designed to give you peace of mind when it comes to your home — and that applies to more than just existential threats,” writes Leeoproduct manager Bjorn Hovland. “Along with the ability to detect smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, the product contains both temperature and humidity sensors to keep the things you care about safe — whether you’re worried about your pipes freezing, mold growing, or wine spoiling.”

The Leeo Smart Alert Nightlight is available for purchase for $99.
