Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Patch Adds Tips News Channel To Switch With Exclusive In-Game Items

Nintendo has issued a new patch (version 1.3.1) for its crazy popular The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game for both its hybrid Switch console and Wii U. According to the release notes, the patch stomps out some lingering bugs and doles out various fixes to improve game play. And in a unique twist, the latest patch adds a new News channel to the Switch that will reward gamers with in-game items.

The channel is called "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Tips from the Wild" and will be accessible starting Wednesday (August 9, 2017). Switch owners will be able to access the channel through News on the Home menu. When launching the game from certain articles distributed through the News channel, Switch owners will be rewarded with in-game items, though Nintendo did not say what exactly they will be. Nintendo also says that depending on your game progress and location, certain items may not be obtainable.

Zelda on Switch

Release notes for the Wii U version do not mention a News channel, so it looks like this is something that will be exclusive to Switch owners. On both platforms, Nintendo said it fixed an issue in Pack 1: The Master Trials of the Expansion Pass, in which defeating certain enemies for Kilton was not counted towards completion when playing in Master Mode. This is the sixth patch for Breath of the Wild for both platforms.

Nintendo's latest Zelda game has been a smashing success, as has been the Switch. In a recent earnings report, Nintendo revealed that it has sold nearly 5 million Switch consoles to date, putting it halfway to its goal of 10 million Switch sales by the end of the year. At one point earlier in the year, sales of Zelda for the Switch was actually outpacing sales of the console..

We played the Zelda game ourselves when reviewing the Switch and came away impressed. While not the most graphically stunning game in the world, Nintendo did a great job creating a sprawling and immersive adventure with fun game play.
