Lenovo Hits CES 2019 With Legion Gaming Notebooks, Keyboards, Displays And Headsets

Lenovo has gone official with the gear that it is unveiling at CES 2019 and a bunch of the stuff is aimed directly at gamers. The first two items are gaming notebooks including the Lenovo Legion Y740 and the Legion Y540. The Y740 is offered in 15-inch and 17-inch flavors with either an Intel 8th Gen Core i7-8750H processor or an Intel Core i5-8300H. Both versions run Windows 10 Home and pack an "Unannounced NVIDIA GPU." Storage is up to 512GB PCIe SSD, or a 512GB SATA SSD, or 2TB HDD; the 17-inch machine is Intel Optane ready.

The audio system includes Dolby designed speakers and Dolby Atmos sound with the 17-inch version featuring a subwoofer. Power for the machine comes from a 57Wh battery in the 15-inch version and a 76 Wh unit in the 17-inch notebook. Two display options are available with a FHD 300nit 144Hz G-Sync or Dolby Vision HDR 400 500nit display. Connectivity includes USB-C, HDMI, LAN, USB 3.1, and a mini DisplayPort. Other features include an anti-ghosting keyboard, Corsair iCUE RGB backlit keyboards, RGB chassis lighting, Killer WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1, and a full aluminum chassis. The Y740 15-inch notebook starts at $1,749.99, and the 17-inch starts at $1,979.99 with both available in February.

The Y540 15-inch machine will launch in May and starts at $929.99. It uses unspecified Intel Core processors, Windows 10 Home or Pro, an unannounced NVIDIA graphics card, up to 32GB of RAM, up to 256GB PCIe SSD/512GB SATA SSD/2TB HDD for storage; the machine is Optane ready. Onboard audio is via Harman speakers with Smart AMP and Dolby Atmos support. Power is from a 52.5Wh or 57Wh battery depending on the configuration. Display options include a 15.6-inch FHD 300nit unit with Dolby Vision HDR or a 60Hz FHD 300 nit unit.

Lenovo also has a pair of new gaming monitors including the Y44fw curved super-wide 43.4-inch borderless gaming monitor. The stand lifts, tilts, and swivels for comfort and the monitor boasts 32:10 aspect ratio and is HDR400 certified. The display has a 144Hz refresh rate with 4ms response time and supports AMD FreeSync. An optional, detachable Harmon Kardon certified speaker is available, and the monitor has a USB-C port. Other features include picture-by-picture and picture-in-picture capability. Native resolution is 3840 x 1200 and connectivity options include DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI, and USB Type-C. The Y44fw will ship in April for $1,199.99.

The other display is the Lenovo Legion Y27gq launching in April for $999.99. It's a 27-inch display aimed at eSports with a 240Hz refresh rate and 0.5ms response time. It is borderless with QHD 2560x1440 resolution and an anti-glare finish. It also supports NVIDIA G-Sync and has an ergonomic stand with lots of adjustment. Connectivity includes USB 3.0, HDMI, DP, and an audio combo port.

On the audio front, Lenovo has an H500 7.1 Pro Gaming Headset that will sell for $99.99 and ships in April. It offers driverless 7.1 surround sound and 50mm drivers. It has a passive noise canceling retractable mic and in-line controls. The headband is metal, and the ear cups rotate and are cushioned. The cable is 7.5-feet long and uses USB or a 3.5mm input. Lenovo's H300 will also ship in April for $59.99 and uses 50mm drivers and has a passive noise canceling microphone. The ear cups rotate, and it connects with a 3.5mm cable.

Legion K500 RGB Mechanical Keyboard

Lenovo's K500 RGB Mechanical Keyboard ships in April for $99.99 and has a minimalist design. It has tactile red mechanical switches and full 104-key anti-ghosting tech. Lighting is customizable with 16.8 million, and the keyboard offers dedicated media keys. The textured palm rest is detachable and it has a 6-foot braided cable. To go with that keyboard is a Legion M500 RGB gaming mouse with 16,000 DPI resolution, Omron mechanical switches, and seven customizable buttons. DPI can be switched on the fly, and the mouse has three lighting zones that support 16.8 million colors. An adjustable weight cartridge allows users to customize up to 10g of weight and the cable is 6-feet long. The mouse will sell for $59.99 and ships in April.
