Lenovo Flex 5 And IdeaPad Laptops Get Kaby Lake Refresh, GeForce Graphics And USB-C
Lenovo is already breaking out its back-to-school laptop lineup and the current school year isn’t even over yet. With that being said, the company has new Flex 5 convertibles in the mix along with new IdeaPad notebooks and the enthusiast-class Legion Y920 gaming notebook.
Starting off with the Flex 5, it is available with either a 14-inch or 15.6-inch display. The 14-inch model can be optioned up to FHD (1920x1080) resolution, while the 15-inch model goes all the way up to UHD (3840x2160). As you might expect, seventh generation Intel Kaby Lake processors are along for the ride, and you can equip the convertibles with up to 16GB of RAM. On the graphics front, you get integrated Intel graphics along with a discrete NVIDIA GeForce 940MX, which we feel is getting a bit long in the tooth these days considering that the GeForce GTX 10 series has been out for a while now.
On the storage front, you can choose up to a 512GB PCIe SSD or up to 1TB HDD. Lenovo also provides plenty of connectivity options, including USB-C (although charging isn’t supported), two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, Bluetooth 4.1, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and a 4-in-1 card reader.
The Flex 5 is priced from $719.99 for the 14-inch model, and $829.99 for the 15.6-inch model.
Moving on, there are new updates to the IdeaPad range including the 320, 320S and 720S. The IdeaPad 320 is available in 15.6-inch and 17.3-inch form-factors, with up to Kaby Lake Core i7 processors under the hood. Up to a 2TB SATA HDD can be installed, and screen resolution tops to at just 1600x900 (17.3-inch model). Up to 16GB of DDR4 memory can be installed, and you even get a DVD-RW drive (people still use those?).
The IdeaPad 320S brings with it a lighter frame along with 14-inch and 15.6-inch display options (both 1920x1080). The smaller of the two comes with integrated Intel graphics, while the larger features a GeForce 940MX. Up to a Core i7 can be configured with up 16GB of RAM, and you can opt for a 512GB PCIe SSD if you have enough dough to spare.
Rounding out the IdeaPad family is the 720S, which only comes with a 14-inch FHD display. The familiar GeForce 940MX is here, along with optional 16GB RAM/512GB PCIe SSD configurations. Thunderbolt 3 is along for the ride this time around and the magnesium and aluminum notebook weighs in a relatively light 3.4 pounds.
The IdeaPad 320 (15.6/17.3), IdeaPad 320S (14/15.6) and IdeaPad 720S are priced from $439.99, $489.99, $739.99, $749.99 and $969.99 respectively.
Finally, we have the Legion Y920 gaming notebook, which brings with it either a Core i7-7820HK or i7-7700HQ processor and up to 16GB of RAM. We finally get some Pascal lovin’ here with the GeForce GTX 1070 (8GB) paired with a 17.3-inch FHD display. Lenovo throws in plenty of gamer-centric features including a full RGB mechanical keyboard, Dolby Home Theater Audio, Thunderbolt 3, Killer Wireless-AC 1535 and Killer LAN.
The “killer” features also means that the Legion Y920 will put a hurtin’ on your bank account, with a starting price of $2,699.99.
